Man suffers severe workplace injuries after struck by bolt

All occupations in California carry some degree of risk; however, some are especially risky. For example, a representative for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration notes that workers in the wind industry face a variety of different risks, including falls and electrical shocks. While employers can take precautions to protect employees from these known risks, accidents can still happen. Unfortunately, one man is now recovering from severe workplace injuries after he was struck in the head by a 4-pound bolt in an accident that happened in another state.

The incident occurred just before 10 p.m. one night in early July. According to reports, a 26-year-old man was working in a tower approximately 100 above ground. A bolt reportedly fell from a turbine that was approximately 100 feet about him and struck him in the head. The hit caused him to lose consciousness.

Two of his co-workers were able to move him safely to the ground. He was transported to one hospital but was afterward flown to a different one. Some reports indicate that the man’s head injury is severe. This accident follows an incident where a worker in the same industry fell approximately 125 feet and survived.

Unfortunately, a head injury can have serious consequences, and the man will likely face a long recovery, requiring extensive medical treatment. In many cases involving a head injury, victims are never able to return to work. Between lost wages and medical bills, the person’s financial situation can quickly become precarious. Fortunately, California requires employees to provide insurance coverage to help workers and their families in the event workplace injuries are suffered. To help better understand these benefits and ensure fair compensation, an experienced attorney can help guide those seeking them throughout the process.
