Worker in critical condition after suffering workplace injuries

On Behalf of | Feb 22, 2017 | Workplace Injuries

All workplaces in California hold some degree of risk of injury. Those who work with electricity are likely all too aware of the risks they face. Despite their knowledge and the safety precautions they may take, accidents can still happen that result in serious workplace injuries. Unfortunately, one out-of-state man is hospitalized, listed in critical condition, after he received an electric shock while laying fiber optic line.

Reports indicate that rescue workers were called to the scene at approximately 5:30 one evening on a day in mid-February. A crew working for Fiber Com Connect was reportedly working to lay fiber optic line. They were using compressed air in order to send the line through a conduit.

Unfortunately, the crew reportedly lost control of the line, causing it to raise into the air approximately 75 feet, striking a power line. While several workers were able to run for safety, the 18-year-old male holding the line was seriously hurt. A witness claims that the teenager initially had no pulse and CPR was administered. While his pulse was lost again, he was revived and transported to the hospital where he is listed in critical condition. The incident resulted in a loss of power in the area as well as a road closure as crews removed live wires from the roadways.

Anyone who has spent any time in the hospital is likely aware of the expense associated with it. Fortunately, those who suffer workplace injuries are likely entitled to workers’ compensation insurance benefits. These benefits provide medical bills and lost wages. If a worker is unable to return to work in the same capacity as a result of their injuries, he or she could also receive assistance with retraining. To help ensure a fair settlement, many in California has an experienced attorney to help them through the process.
