In order to work on a California construction site, you need to have steady nerves and quick reflexes. Construction workers face potential dangers on a daily basis. In Boca Raton, three construction workers were reportedly injured while working on a house located on Spanish River Road. Apparently, the workers fell through the floor as they were in the process of pouring concrete.
They were working on the second floor as the wooden support beneath their feet gave way. It is believed that the combination of the wet concrete and the floor’s steel reinforcement added up to more weight than the support could bear. As a result, the workers wound up on the ground floor, covered in debris.
Two of the workers were hospitalized. One was described as being in critical condition and may have suffered broken bones and internal injuries. The other worker taken to the hospital is said to have suffered serious injuries. A third worker received treatment at the scene. This is according to Boca Raton Fire-Rescue. Currently, investigators, both state and local, are working to determine the accident’s cause.
In the above case, any number of possible factors may have contributed to the floor collapsing. Perhaps the materials used to build the floor’s support system were somehow defective. Or maybe original design specifications of the house did not properly calculate the strength of the support necessary to safely complete the floor’s construction. Regardless, it is extremely important that answers be found and liability be assigned.
At this point, there is no way to tell what long-term effects the workers may endure. Although this accident did not happen in California, the problems the workers may now be facing are ones that workers in our state have likely experienced after a workplace accident.
