There are many dangers in the workplace. Accidents can happen in California when workers least expect them, regardless of the safety measures in place. Unfortunately, the workplace injuries suffered by one out-of-state man recently resulted in his death.
A spokesperson for local police note that the accident happened in the early morning hours of a day in early October at a Tenaris plant. According to reports, a worker exited the forklift he was operating. While he was standing between the piece of machinery and a spool, the forklift unexpectedly rolled forward, trapping the man.
While the man’s identity was not released initially, Tenaris said that the victim worked for the company for approximately seven years. The company claims that it is cooperating with authorities as the investigation progresses. Workplace accidents that result in a fatality typically spark an investigation conducted by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. If violations of health and safety standards are discovered, the company could face fines as a result of the accident.
While investigations into the events leading up to workplace injuries could potentially prevent future accidents, they will likely provide little relief to a victim’s grieving family. In addition to grief, many people who lose a loved one in such an unexpected manner also face significant financial difficulties as a result of their loss. While they may qualify for workers’ compensation benefits, many people in California struggle with the compensation process. Fortunately, there are experienced professionals available who can help grieving family members seek the benefits to which they may be entitled.
