Workplace injuries lead to fatality

There are many occupations that have known risks. While some people think of a police officer or firefighter when they think of risky occupations, those in California who work with heavy equipment can also fall victim to workplace injuries. Officials are currently investigating a recent out-of-state workplace accident that led to one man’s death.

The accident is said to have happened just before 8 a.m. one morning on a day in late May. Reports on the police scanner indicated that a male employee was struck by a dumpster as it was being moved from a truck. However, police did not release additional details. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration says that it was notified about an accident involving an employee struck by a piece of equipment.

The worker apparently suffered severe injuries to his head and was transported to the hospital. Unfortunately, he later passed away. Investigators have begun interviewing employees and other witnesses as part of its inquiry. The identity of the victim has not been released as officials wait to ensure that family members have been notified.

Unfortunately, there are many risks that could lead to workplace injuries in California. Many victims of such accidents — including family members of deceased workers — are left coping with medical expenses, loss of wages and — for families — funeral costs. Because of the potential financial complications victims face, states require employers to provide workers’ compensation insurance coverage. Many victims who are concerned about receiving fair compensation seek the assistance of an experienced professional who can serve as their advocate.
