Construction accidents: Police investigate fatal incident

It may be surprising for some people in California to realize the dangers that those who work in the field of construction face. Unfortunately, construction accidents can happen on any site; many cause serious injuries, sometimes resulting in fatalities. Police in another state are currently investigating a recent accident that took the life of a man.

According to reports, emergency crews were called to  location where two concrete trucks were on site one morning in early September. Unfortunately, the victim, a 50-year-old man, died at the scene. While police believe the incident was an industrial accident, they are continuing to investigate.

Police say that workers were attempting to repair one of the concrete trucks. While working, the mixer began to turn, pinning the victim between it and the truck frame; he died at the scene. Several agencies responded to the scene, but it is unclear who employed the man. Police have declined to release any other information regarding the accident.

Construction accidents often have serious consequences. Injuries often result in hospital bills and loss of wages; however, California requires employers to provide workers’ compensation insurance coverage in case of an accident. In the event of a fatality, such as this one, benefits — which include funeral expenses — typically extend to certain loved ones in order to relieve some of the stresses created by their unexpected loss. Despite being entitled to such benefits, the compensation process involves meeting certain deadlines and providing specific information which may be more than those grieving can handle. Fortunately, an experienced attorney can help these victims seek fair compensation.
