Man struck by steel beam, suffers fatal workplace injuries

While the dangers associated with certain occupations in California may be obvious, there are risks — sometimes unseen — in all types of employment. Unfortunately, jobs that require employees to interact with heavy equipment or products can be especially dangerous. One family in another state is currently confronting this reality after their loved one passed away as a result of workplace injuries he suffered.

The accident that took the 48-year-old man’s life reportedly happened one afternoon on a day in early September. The man was an employee at Front Range Steel. His job responsibilities included electronically guiding steel beams into position for drilling.

For reasons that are not yet clear, the man is said to have entered the area where holes are drilled in the beams when an automatic machine cycled, moving a beam that struck the man. Reports indicate that the man was impaled. When rescue workers arrived, they performed CPR before the man was transported to the hospital by helicopter. Unfortunately, he passed away at the hospital.

While a memorial fund was created to help the man’s surviving loved ones, including his children and wife, the family may still have difficulty coping with funeral expenses and loss of wages. Because many people suffer workplace injuries in California regardless of the safety standards that are in place, the state requires employers to provide insurance coverage that will create financial protections in the event of an accident. To help secure fair compensation, many victims — including their surviving family members in the event of a fatality — often seek the guidance of an experienced professional to guide them through the process.
