Man suffers fatal workplace injuries while unloading truck

On Behalf of | Feb 20, 2017 | Industrial Workers' Accidents

Anytime workers in California must unload heavy equipment or products from a truck, they face certain dangers This is especially true if the materials shift unexpectedly. Because of the potential of suffering from workplace injuries in a variety of different scenarios and the financial harm such injuries can create, employers in all states are required to provide workers’ compensation insurance coverage for employees. One family may need these benefits following a recent accident in another state that resulted in the loss of a life.

The accident happened in mid-February. A group of workers at Manning Building Supplies were reportedly working to move doors that weighed approximately 200 pounds each from one trailer to another. Unfortunately, one worker dropped a door, causing the trailer to shake.

The movement, unfortunately, caused three other doors to fall. A 57-year-old man was checking labels at the time and did not see the doors fall. A witness claims that it took four workers to remove the doors from him. Unfortunately, the man died at the scene.

When an accident causes fatal workplace injuries, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration launches an investigation to determine the cause. If it is determined that the accident happened due to violations of standards intended to keep workers safe, the company could face a fine. Unfortunately, a fine will not help the surviving family members of a deceased worker cope with the death of their loved one. While they may be entitled to workers’ compensation, most people in California are unaware of the rules and procedures surrounding the path to compensation. Fortunately, there are experienced professionals who can help.
