Officials investigate incident involving fatal workplace injuries

While some people in California are aware of the extreme risks that police officers and firefighters face, they may be less aware that those who work at great heights also face considerable risks due to the potential for falls. As a result, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration has standards in place to protect all employees regardless of their occupation. Unfortunately, one worker in another state recently suffered fatal workplace injuries in a fall.

The incident happened one morning in late January. The victim was working as a contractor at a power plant. He was an employee of MPW Industrial Services Inc., a company that had been hired by NRG Energy to clean a silo at the power plant.

Unfortunately, he suffered a fall from the roof while at the power plant. A representative for the company says he does not believe that the accident happened in an area that the man should have been in to complete the job that he was at the plant to complete. While the company has faced several citations from OSHA in the last few years, the representative does not believe that the accident happened as a result of violations on the company’s part. However, the accident is currently under investigation by OSHA and local police.

Regardless of the cause of the accident, the man’s family is likely going through a difficult time as a result of the unexpected accident. Unfortunately, families often experience more than emotional conflict following such a loss. Many struggle financially as they struggle to meet daily expenses in addition to funeral costs while also coping with loss of wages. Because of the potential fallout of workplace injuries, California requires employers to provide workers’ compensation insurance benefits to workers to protect them in the event of an accident. Experienced professionals can help those in the midst of the grieving process seek the compensation they deserve.
