On-the-job safety is literally a life-or-death concern, and should be treated as such. Employers have a grave responsibility to their employees, to provide them with training and safety equipment required to perform work tasks. Ensuring that everyone goes home safe is extremely important, especially for jobs that require the use of heavy equipment. A California worker has died recently, bringing more attention to the issue of workplace injuries.

The man was operating a forklift at his place of employment on Monday, Aug. 14. First responders came to the scene after an emergency call informed them that a man had become trapped in a forklift. Sadly, the man died before he was able to be taken to the hospital.

The incident occurred around 3 p.m. At the time of the news story, his identity had not been released. Authorities and the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health are still investigating the details of the accident. The tragic accident is a reminder of what is possible when using a forklift.

Hopefully, the investigation will reveal whether the man was a victim of neglect on the part of his employer. Workplace injuries such as his can sometimes be avoided when an employer offers a comprehensive workplace safety plan. Other families in California grieving the loss of a family member may be wondering if there is anything that can be done following the death of a loved one due to an on-the-job accident. Families have the option to file a claim for workers’ compensation survivors’ benefits. An attorney can be of assistance in handling these claims and any necessary appeals.
