Fatal workplace injuries may lead families to seek benefits

On Behalf of | Dec 20, 2017 | Workers' Compensation

When a family loses a loved one, the loss can be felt for a substantial amount of time. Though many Californians may wish to simply focus on their grief in hopes of coming to an understanding and achieving some sense of closure, they may also need to consider certain financial aspects of their lives. When a person dies due to workplace injuries, the surviving family may need workers’ compensation information.

One family in another state may soon be seeking such information due to a recent incident at a UPS facility. Reports stated that a man working on a loading dock had stepped off of the dock at the same time that the driver of a tractor-trailer was backing into the dock. As a result, the worker on the ground was hit.

The incident resulted in the 48-year-old man suffering critical injuries. He was taken to an area hospital, but he unfortunately succumbed to the injuries he suffered in the incident. No other identifying information regarding the victim was released at the time of the report. It was noted that the truck driver did not realize that someone had been hit until after the accident.

Many people rely on their hardworking family members to generate enough income to make ends meet. When workplace injuries result in a person’s death, the loss of income accompanying that death could cause considerable hardships. California families who have found themselves in such predicaments may wonder whether they may be able to obtain benefits from workers’ compensation. In order to gain reliable information on qualifications and other aspects, interested individuals may wish to speak with knowledgeable attorneys.
