Fatal workplace injuries may present need for workers' comp

When a California worker is killed due to injuries suffered on the job, the surviving family may have many questions and concerns. Understandably, the sudden loss of a loved one can cause confusion and grief, but when the deceased provided income for the family, financial worries may become prominent. In cases where workplace injuries prove fatal, families may want to gain information on workers' compensation.

It was recently reported that an incident in another state resulted in the death of one worker. The man was reported as being 59 years old, and he had been working at a flooring manufacturing facility when he was involved in an accident. During the incident, he was hit by an object described as a "large roller" and suffered injuries.

He was taken to an area hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries there. At the time of the report, it was unclear what may have caused the accident to take place. The man had worked at the facility for three years, and it was also noted that another worker was killed on the job at the same facility just seven months prior to this fatal event. It was mentioned that this latest incident is under investigation.

As this case shows, fatal accidents can easily occur on the job. When California residents suffer workplace injuries that lead to deaths, workers' compensation may be necessary for surviving family members who need to make ends meet. Qualifying individuals may obtain survivors' benefits if they apply, and parties with questions regarding these benefits and other aspects of workers' comp may want to obtain additional information.
