Most employers are required to carry insurance in case workers suffer injuries on the job. While it is always hoped that this type of insurance is not needed, workplace injuries do take place on a regular basis. In some instances, the accidents can be so severe that workers lose their lives as a result. In the aftermath, surviving family members may need financial assistance through workers’ compensation insurance.

California readers may be interested in a work-related accident that took place out of state. According to reports, two men were working on a bus at a tire center. The bus was being held up by jacks, and while the men were working, one of the jacks gave out, which resulted in the bus falling and crushing the two workers.

The injuries they suffered were severe, and despite being transported to a hospital, one of the workers did not survive. He was reported as being 55 years old. The other worker was reported as being 29 years old, and he was still in critical condition at the time of the report. It was not mentioned what may have caused the jack to fail, but the incident was still under investigation.

While many people may understand that workers’ compensation can help injured workers face financial ramifications of workplace injuries, it can also assist surviving family members of workers who died on the job. Survivors benefits can prove immensely useful when it comes to covering final medical expenses and lost income. When the need for workers’ comp arises, injured California workers or surviving family members may wish to gain reliable information on how to obtain this benefit.
