Sanitation worker may need workers’ compensation after explosion

Some work-related hazards are not always obvious. Something that appears to be normal at the time could actually be hiding a serious danger that could lead to a worker suffering injuries on the job. If this happens, the injured party may soon be looking for information on workers’ compensation.

California readers may be interested in an accident that took place in another state that involved a hidden danger for a sanitation worker. According to reports, the worker had loaded trash into the back of a garbage truck when an explosion occurred. Someone had placed a helium tank used to fill balloons in a bag among the apparently normal-appearing trash. When the trash was placed in the garbage truck and compressed, the tank exploded.

The incident resulted in one worker suffering injuries to his eye, shoulders, neck and chest. It was also noted that he experienced ringing in his ears. It was not mentioned whether emergency crews came to the scene or if he was taken to the hospital. A member of the Uniformed Sanitationmen’s Association commented that individuals need to consider the dangers workers face from hazardous materials and objects placed in the trash.

The worker involved in this incident likely did not expect such an event to occur during his workday. Of course, most California workers likely do not anticipate being injured on the job either. Still, these events happen almost daily, and it is wise for injured workers to understand their options for seeking workers’ compensation. These benefits are often much-needed by injured employees, and having the right information on applying could prove useful.
