Workplace injuries prove fatal in recent accident

Because of the dangers that many face in their workplaces, the federal government and states such as California create laws and regulations with the intention of protecting the safety of all employees. Unfortunately, even with these in place, accidents can still happen -- potentially endangering the lives of workers. For example, one out-of-state man was recently killed as a result of workplace injuries suffered at an airport.

The accident happened one Thursday morning in late June. According to reports, the 57-year-old victim was an employee of Manafort Construction. He was working on a water main in a trench as part of safety upgrades at an airport.

The saw that the man was using to cut the water main apparently kicked back. This caused a cut to the man's neck that ultimately led to his death. The worker, who had worked for the company for almost 20 years, died at the scene of the accident.

Accidents such as these typically result in an investigation conducted by the Occupational Health and Safety Administration. While the results of such an investigation could include a fine against the company, OSHA findings can also potentially prevent other employees from suffering similar workplace injuries. Unfortunately, such a report will likely do little to comfort the grieving family of the deceased employee as they face life without their loved one. While there are many concerns for family members who recently lost a loved one, workers' compensation insurance insurance coverage -- which California requires employers to provide for workers -- could help the family cope with the financial consequences of his death. Because dealing with the state-regulated compensation system can be complicated, many people in similar circumstances have sought the guidance of an experienced professional to ensure fair treatment.
