A 27-year-old employee of Stone Brewing company in Escondido passed away following an industrial accident at the brewery. The man was fatally injured on Aug. 24 when a forklift fell on top of him at his workplace. The accident victim was transported to Palomar Medical Center, where he died shortly after.
The CEO and the president of Stone Brewing Co., who both founded the company, issued a statement declining to give details as to how the accident occurred. The two employers stated in a release via Facebook and Twitter that more information would be made public once an investigation into the cause of the accident had been completed. The co-founders expressed condolences to the victim’s family members and conveyed sorrow at the passing of one of their Team Stone colleagues.
When a victim dies as a result of another person’s wrongdoing, the family members of the victim may be able to recover financial compensation in civil court. Family members of a deceased person can opt to hire an attorney who may be able to file a lawsuit for wrongful death. Through a wrongful death action, an attorney may be able to help individuals recover the costs of lost past and future wages of a decedent relative, as well as compensation for pain and suffering.
If a person dies or is injured as a result of a workplace accident, an attorney may also be able to help the victim or the family members of the victim recover money from the employer through a workers’ compensation action. Workers’ compensation may afford workplace accident victims or their survivors the opportunity to recover Social Security disability benefits, if the victim survives, or death benefits.
