There are many dangerous professions. While most people in California think of police officers and firemen, people working in the field of construction also face significant risks due to construction accidents. Unfortunately, one out-of-state family is left grieving after a recent fatal workplace accident.
The accident involved a 35-year-old man. Around 8:30 a.m., reports indicate that the man was working on repairs of a bridge overpass. He then became pinned between the roof and a lift. While emergency personnel attempted to revive him, their efforts were unsuccessful. He died at the scene.
The incident is currently under investigation by several different offices, including the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. If it is found that health or safety standards were violated leading to the accident, the company could face certain consequences, including citations and fines. The man’s employer, Gulisek Construction, Co, is said to be cooperating with the investigation.
While investigations in response to construction accidents are important to protect the future safety of other employees, they may do little to help a grieving family coping with an unexpected loss. While it will do little to help with their grief, worker’s compensation insurance benefits may provide them compensation that will help them cope with the financial ramifications of their loss, including lost wages and funeral expenses. For many people in California, seeking the advice and help of an experienced professional allowed them to focus on their emotional recovery, rather than undergoing additional stress due to the cumbersome compensation process.
