States and local governments work hard to provide activities that will attract tourists to their areas. While an attraction may bring people and cash to a region, workers must maintain the attraction in order to keep visitors safe. Unfortunately, one worker in California suffered serious workplace injuries while he was checking such a location to ensure that tourists would be safe.
The accident happened in a mine that is part of an attraction aimed at helping tourists learn about mining and the manufacture of glass. The worker was apparently checking to ensure that a mine was safe for visitors. Reports indicate that he was standing on scaffolding while working to stabilize the mine. Unfortunately, a rock came loose and is believed to have struck the worker’s chest .
His co-workers were able to bring him out of the mine on a backboard. While he was conscious and talking to rescue workers, he complained of shortness of breath and chest pain prompting concerns of internal injuries. He was transported to the hospital by helicopter.
While some say the use of scaffolding seems to indicate that proper safety procedures were followed, an investigation will likely be launched in an attempt to determine the exact cause of the accident. In the meantime, the man suffering from workplace injuries is likely focusing on his recovery. While doing so, he may require extensive medical treatment and time to fully heal, resulting in medical bills and lost wages. Fortunately, California requires employers to provide workers’ compensation insurance to help alleviate burdens stemming from injuries suffered at work. To ensure fair and adequate compensation, many workers turn to experienced professionals who are familiar with the claims process.
