When most people in California think of dangerous occupations, they likely think of police officers and fire fighters who put their lives at risk every day. However, industrial employees who work with large pieces of machinery are similarly at risk for workplace injuries. For example, one out-of-state man recently suffered serious injuries while using machinery.
Reports indicate that the accident happened at Nu-Wool Co. just after 8 a.m. one morning in early August. The man’s hand reportedly become lodged in a wool compression machines. Co-workers were able to extricate his hand before emergency workers arrived.
As a result of the accident, the 65-year-old employee was transported to a hospital for treatment. He was listed in serious condition at the time. An investigation into the accident will be conducted.
Most employers are aware of the potential of accidents in the workplace, and while they may go to great lengths to protect employee safety, accidents cannot be completely avoided. As a result, the state of California requires employers to provide workers’ compensation insurance coverage for employees, which helps workers with the financial complications created by workplace injuries by covering medical expenses and lost wages. In some cases, where a person is unable to return to work in the same capacity, benefits can cover the costs of additional training to allow the person to return to the workforce. However, some people find the process of receiving adequate compensation overwhelming. Many have discovered that having someone on their side with experience concerning the claims process can make the path to compensation easier.
