Workers’ compensation possible following fatal accident

On Behalf of | Aug 19, 2015 | Workers' Compensation

The average person in California likely faces a variety of different dangers as he or she goes about everyday life. In some cases, dangers are well-known, allowing a person to take proper precautions. In others, a person may have felt relatively safe when an accident occurred. Regardless, a person injured in a workplace accident may be entitled to workers’ compensation benefits. These benefits typically extend to dependent family members in the event of a fatality.

One out-of-state family may now qualify for such benefits as a result of a fatal accident that took the life of a 54-year-old man. According to reports, the man was operating a bulldozer on a steep grade at the time of the accident. The bulldozer apparently rolled several times before landing in an upright position.

Unfortunately, the man died at the scene. It is believed that he suffered from severe head trauma. It is unclear if there could have been factors other than the steep grade that may have contributed to the accident. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration as well as the Pennsylvania State Police are currently conducting an investigation.

An unexpected death resulting from a workplace accident often leaves families financially unprepared. Without workers’ compensation insurance, which California requires employers provide for employees, families could find themselves struggling with funeral costs and the loss of wages. Many people entitled to such benefits seek the help of an experienced professional to guide them through the compensation process. By doing so, they can help ensure that they are treated fairly throughout the claims process.
