Woman suffers fatal workplace injuries in accident

All jobs in California and across the country have some degree of risk. Those that require employees to maneuver or use heavy equipment can be especially dangerous, especially if proper safety precautions are not in place. Unfortunately, officials are currently investigating a recent accident in another state that led to fatal workplace injuries.

Reports indicate that the accident happened at approximately 9:30 p.m. one night in late July. Workers were attempting to load a commercial air conditioning unit weighing 3,200 pounds on a trailer at the time. The unit allegedly fell during the process, landing on a 37-year-old female worker.

Co-workers were able to extricate the woman and began administering CPR. Unfortunately, she passed away as a result of her injuries. The accident is under investigation by local police and representatives from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. OSHA typically has several months to complete its investigation.

Workplace injuries such as these can have a devastating impact, and while some are fatal, others can leave a victim with serious injuries that can prevent him or her from returning to work, resulting in a precarious financial situation. As a result, states require employers to provide worker’s compensation insurance benefits. These benefits can help workers with medical expenses and lost wages. In the case of a fatality, they may extend to surviving family members and provide reimbursement for funeral costs, in addition to lost wages. Those in California who believe they are entitled to such compensation often seek the assistance of experienced professionals to help seek justice.
