Man suffers fatal workplace injuries in forklift accident

On Behalf of | Dec 12, 2016 | Industrial Workers' Accidents

There are a variety of different ways in which an employee in California could be injured at work. Often, workplace injuries happen due to no fault of the employee. For example, equipment could malfunction, causing an injury. Unfortunately, a man in another state recently lost his life in a workplace accident that remains under investigation.

Local police officials claim that they received reports of the accident one evening in early December. The 60-year-old victim was an employee of Briggs Equipment. He is believed to have been either performing maintenance on a forklift or repairing it when the forks fell unexpectedly and struck him in the head.

Unfortunately, he died instantly. He was working alone at the time but was soon discovered by a co-worker. As with all fatal workplace place accidents, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration is conducting an investigation. If violations of health and safety standards are discovered, the man’s employer could face citations and fines.

The vast majority of employers in California and across the country do everything in their power to protect their workers. Despite their efforts, workplace injuries — sometimes resulting in a fatality — still occur. As a result, employers are required to provide workers’ compensation insurance benefits which helps employees that fall victim to a workplace accident as well as their families These benefits provide for lost wages, funeral expenses and medical costs, among others, and typically extend to certain family members in the case of a fatality. To help ensure fair compensation, many victims seek the help of an experienced attorney to negotiate on their behalf.
