As people in California go through their workday, they likely have routine tasks that they complete. Despite their familiarity with these tasks, there is still danger in them. For example, a man in another state recently suffered fatal workplace injuries during a process that had likely been performed multiple times at the facility where he was working.
The 27-year-old victim was working at Texamerican Food Blending Inc. one day in late December. According to police, he and another employee were working to clean a mixing tank when the victim dropped something into the tank. The other employee left to close a door in the equipment while the victim climbed inside.
Unfortunately, the tank turned on while the man was inside, resulting in fatal injuries. The incident is currently under investigation by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, which could lead to fines and citations against the man’s employer if violations are discovered. The crime lab now has the man’s body.
While health and safety standards are in place to prevent workplace injuries, accidents still occur. The financial toll on victims — including surviving family members in the event of a fatality — is often more than they can manage. As a result, California requires employers to provide workers’ compensation insurance coverage, which can help with a variety of issues stemming from an accident.
