Road construction is a common occurrence. Most California residents see some type of construction on their daily commutes. While these zones are often marked with bright orange cones, barrels and signs, many drivers do not take the time to slow down and act cautiously for the safety of the workers in the area. As a result, road construction accidents are not uncommon.
It was recently reported that an accident of this type caused fatal injuries to one worker and serious injuries to another in another state. According to reports, a 20-year-old worker and a 23-year-old worker were off the road in a construction zone when a vehicle left the roadway and hit them. The vehicle reportedly crossed the center line before going off the road. It was noted that speed was likely a factor in the incident.
The accident resulted in the 20-year-old worker suffering fatal injuries, and the 23-year-old worker was transported by air to a medical center and was considered to be in critical condition. The driver of the vehicle involved did not suffer any injuries in the incident. Authorities were continuing to investigate at the time of the report.
In cases of road construction accidents, it is not uncommon for outcomes to occur similar to the ones in this case. When it comes to serious injuries on the job, workers in California and elsewhere often have the ability to pursue workers’ compensation for financial help. In cases of fatalities, the surviving families of victims may have the ability to seek survivors’ benefits. Of course, pursuing any type of insurance claim can be difficult, and it may prove wise for individuals in this type of situation to consult with knowledgeable attorneys for help.
