California man suffers fatal workplace injuries

Workers in any industry face a number of hazards and risks. Some people may think they are carrying out routine duties only to have their days and lives changed dramatically when something goes wrong. Unfortunately, when something does go wrong on the job, it is not uncommon for workers to suffer fatal workplace injuries.

It was recently reported that a California citrus worker died after an on-the-job accident. The man had been trying to shut down a wind machine at a citrus orchard when the machine apparently malfunctioned. The man’s brother stated that the machine started vibrating and then one of the blades from the propeller came off. The blade was reported as weighing 600 pounds and hit the worker when it fell.

A fellow worker had gone looking for the man, who was alone at the time of the incident, and found him lying on the ground. Emergency crews came to the scene, and at the time, the worker was conscious but badly injured. While at the hospital, he succumbed to the serious injuries he suffered. The cause of death was reported as multiple blunt-force trauma injuries.

Fatal workplace injuries are obviously the worst of their kind. The family of this California worker will undoubtedly be feeling a tremendous amount of grief due to the outcomes of the accident. They may also face financial difficulties that could make it immensely difficult for them to meet their needs. However, they may be able to qualify for survivors’ benefits through the company’s workers’ compensation insurance. Gaining information on this possibility may prove useful to them.
