Working in construction is a dangerous job. It seems like there is a hazard at every turn, and even when workers do their best to stay safe, unexpected construction accidents can take place. Unfortunately, these accidents tend to result in serious injuries for workers in this industry.

California readers may be interested in an accident that took place out of state. According to reports, a 10-story apartment building was under construction, and while workers were on the site, a large portion of rebar collapsed. Initial reports indicated that 20 workers were trapped as a result of the collapse, but before emergency crews arrived, the majority of the workers were able to free themselves. However, at least one worker remained trapped and injured.

The man was pinned under the rebar, and in order to get him free, firefighters had to saw through the iron with a mechanical saw. The incident resulted in him suffering serious injuries, but it was noted that he was alert and conscious at the time of the rescue. He was transported to an area hospital by helicopter. The report also mentioned that no other workers suffered injuries as a result of the accident.

Though it is fortunate that more workers were not harmed, any time even one worker is injured, the situation needs to be taken seriously. Workers who suffer injuries in construction accidents often qualify for workers’ compensation benefits, but it is important to remember that these benefits are not always easy to obtain. It may benefit injured workers in California to obtain help from attorneys experienced in this area of law as they apply for financial assistance.
