When a sudden accident takes place, there may be no time for anyone to react before serious damage has been done. In some instances, an accident on the job could lead to fatal workplace injuries before anyone could even call for help. Unfortunately, these types of events are not uncommon.
It was recently reported that an accident at the Port of Los Angeles resulted in the death of one worker and serious injuries for another. Apparently, the two individuals were working to reinflate a tire of a large piece of machinery when the tire exploded. It was noted that the wheel of the machine is about 5 to 6 feet across, and the explosion of the large tire resulted in a 58-year-old worker being killed instantly.
Emergency crews were called to the scene, and the surviving worker was transported to an area hospital due to severe head injuries. The report indicated that the individual was put in a medically-induced coma. His age was not given in the report. It was noted that multiple agencies, including Cal/OSHA, were investigating the serious accident.
When major work-related incidents result in serious and fatal workplace injuries, it can be difficult for the injured workers, families and even others on the job to bounce back. Of course, the family of this Los Angeles victim and the seriously injured worker all likely have long roads ahead of them.
