Dust explosion leads to workplace injuries at treatment plant

On Behalf of | Aug 13, 2019 | Workers' Compensation

Any accident that takes place in the workplace can leave California workers shaken. Unfortunately, these accidents can also often lead to workplace injuries for those who were on the job at the time of the incident. Even seemingly minor injuries can cause problems for workers, including needing medical treatment and requiring them to take time off work to recover.

It was recently reported that three workers were injured in an incident at a water treatment facility in another state. Emergency personnel received a call about an incident that sounded like an explosion. Firefighters were directed toward the treatment plant where it was discovered that an explosion had taken place. The incident caused damage to the facility, but it did not result in a fire.

Three workers were transported to an area hospital after suffering injuries. Those injuries were reported as being minor, but the exact types of injuries suffered were not detailed. It is believed that there was a dust explosion, which can occur when airborne dust particles ignite. It is considered a serious hazard, but it was unclear what may have ignited the dust in this particular incident.

Workplace injuries can cause a number of setbacks for workers. In many cases, it is wise for individuals to explore their options for receiving benefits from workers’ compensation after work-related incidents lead to harm. Because many California workers may not fully understand their rights in this type of situation, interested parties may want to discuss the possibility of qualifying for benefits with legal professionals experienced in this area of law.
