Losing a loved one is never an easy event to accept. Even if individuals expect the loss, it can still take a tremendous toll on their lives. Even more harrowing is when a completely unexpected death occurs, which can happen if individuals are involved in work-related accidents. Unfortunately, too many workplace injuries prove fatal.
It was recently reported that one California worker lost his life after an on-the-job accident. Apparently, the man was working at a dredging company when the accident occurred. He was on top of a silo using a cutting torch to remove a metal casing from a conveyor motor. However, while he was trying to remove the casing, the entire conveyor system fell on top of him. Kayakers on the Petaluma River heard screams for help and contacted emergency services.
When emergency crews arrived at the scene, they found the man trapped. After he was extricated, he was transported to an area hospital, but he did not survive the severe chest injuries that he suffered. He was reported as being 31 years old. It was noted that the California Occupational Safety and Health Administration was investigating the incident.
The family of the man killed in this California incident are undoubtedly shocked and devastated by the turn of events. Workplace injuries can have fatal results in the blink of an eye, and many families can be left struggling. This family and others affected by fatal work-related accidents may need financial assistance after such an event, and looking into workers’ compensation benefits may be useful to them.
