Roadway accidents can present workers’ compensation need

On Behalf of | May 11, 2020 | Workers' Compensation

Whether people are on the road for work or travel, any roadway can be a dangerous place. California residents and those elsewhere who work on roadways due to jobs in construction, accident cleanup or other industries often face safety risks due to drivers passing through the area. Unfortunately, many passing drivers do not slow down or take other precautions in such areas, and those on the job could end up in need of workers’ compensation.

It was recently reported that a department of transportation worker in a nearby state was injured on the job due to a passing vehicle. The worker was on a roadway while cleaning up after an earlier car accident. The worker was struck by a truck that was hauling a trailer, and the driver of that truck did not remain at the scene.

The incident resulted in the worker suffering a broken leg. It was not mentioned whether any other workers were involved in the incident. At the time of the report, authorities were still looking for the driver of the truck, and anyone with information was encouraged to contact the authorities.

Any unexpected injury can cause major setbacks for a person. When individuals are injured while carrying out work-related duties, they may feel frustrated by the situation. Because many injuries require workers to take time off in order to recover, California roadway workers injured in similar accidents may want to ensure that they understand their workers’ compensation options. The financial repercussions of a job-related accident can be serious, and workers’ comp benefits can often help offset some of those struggles.
