At this time of the year, many people in California and across the country have turned their attention toward the holidays. Often, they think about the dishes that they will make and the gifts they will purchase. Unfortunately, a family in another state is instead planning on how to say goodbye to a loved one after a workplace accident led to the loss of life.
The accident happened during the morning hours of a day in November at a business called Romeo RIM. According to the sheriff’s office, someone reported that a worker had been injured by a piece of equipment. When law enforcement officers arrived at the scene, they reportedly discovered a deceased 42-year-old man.
According to reports, the man died as a result of crush injuries suffered after a 25,000-pound manufacturing mold fell on him. Reports indicate that the Occupational Safety and Health Administration had been notified. Police believe that the incident was the result of a tragic accident.
OSHA will likely work to determine what caused the workplace accident and whether any health or safety violations may have contributed. In the meantime, a family is left to mourn the unexpected death of their family member. Unfortunately, a loss such as this can have devastating emotional and financial consequences. While surviving family members may be entitled to workers’ compensation insurance benefits, the process can seem overwhelming, especially to those who are in mourning. As such, many who qualify for such benefits in California often ask an attorney with experience with the process to help them in the pursuit of fair compensation.
