It is easy to become distracted. Even something as simple as an errant thought can prevent a person from fully attending to a task. While being distracted or just not fully attentive to changing situations is typically relatively benign, such an event while driving can have tragic consequences, making it necessary for drivers to focus their attention at all times. In fact, two people were recently killed in a car accident in California.
The incident reportedly happened at a traffic light. According to reports, vehicles were stopped at the light at approximately 5:30 p.m. Police say that a driver failed to obey the red light, resulting in a rear-end collision with a stopped vehicle.
The force of the impact reportedly caused the stopped vehicle to strike a third car. While the drivers of the first and third vehicle were reportedly uninjured in the collision, two occupants of the second vehicle died as a result of injuries suffered in the collision. The highway was closed for approximately three hours afterward.
Reports indicate that police do not believe that drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision. Unfortunately, the families of the deceased are now left facing an unthinkable tragedy during a time of the year that should be focused on family traditions and making new memories. To help ensure that negligent drivers who cause car accidents are held accountable for their actions, many victims — including surviving family members in the event of a fatality — choose to seek justice by filing a personal injury lawsuit. Because the process can seem overwhelming for those grieving a loss, many in California seek guidance from a professional with experience with such cases.
